MEA Files Motion to Intervene After WMC Launches Legal Attack on the Authority of Local Governments to Regulate CAFOs

MEA filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit initiated by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce. The motion to intervene was filed on behalf of the Town of Eureka, a community in Polk County. At issue in the case is the authority of local governments to regulate CAFOs. Five towns enacted similar ordinances after an Iowa company announced plans to build a massive confinement facility in the area.

MEA Submits Amicus Brief in Lawsuit Over Controversial Lake Superior Water Bottling Proposal

Today, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals agreed to accept an amicus, or ‘friend of the court’ brief, written by Midwest Environmental Advocates (MEA) on behalf of the grassroots group Lake Superior Not for Sale. The brief was filed in a case that stems from a controversial proposal by start-up company Kristle KLR to harvest and transport water from an artesian well near Lake Superior for eventual bottling and sale.

Natural Resources Board Moves Forward with Groundwater Standards to Protect Wisconsin Communities from PFAS Contamination

Today, the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board allowed an important regulatory effort to protect Wisconsin communities from toxic PFAS pollution to move forward. According to a scope statement approved by the NRB, the DNR proposes adding some of the most widely studied PFAS chemicals to a list of substances designated as contaminants under Wisconsin’s Groundwater Law.
